Cobblers

..hold
them up to the light, they’re as transparent as the shroud of Turin. I
suspect if Jesus were around today he would be just the sort of bloke to wear
corduroys.
It seems a long time ago now, but corduroy was once (briefly) a fashion fabric.
It was The Beatles of course, but other groups followed their lead. The Byrds
I seem to remember – maybe it was confined to the folkier bunch. I had
Borrie make me a corduroy suit in the Chants’ days – and I modelled
it too, uncomfortably holding a cigarette on the instructions of the photographer,
who clearly didn’t believe that corduroy on its own could ever be hip.

I don’t wear corduroy these days to be hip, of course. I wear it because
I’m a dag. I don’t think a nerd would be caught dead in the stuff,
although, now that I come to think of it, doesn’t the really nerdy guy
(Moss) in The IT Crowd wear corduroys? Pardon me while I check up on
the Net.
Inconclusive. Good show though – highly recommended. As is The Flight
Of The Conchords
. I’ve only caught up with this show recently on
Network TV, but it seems to be one of those shows that’s bypassed cable
(here at least) and gone straight to Mayfair. Well, Channel 10. I’ve raved
about it to numerous people, but when I ask them if they’ve seen it, they
seem to have absent-mindedly forgotten all about it. I suspect it’s because
I’ve told them it’s the ongoing tale of a couple of Kiwi musicians
and their Kiwi manager trying to make the big time in New York. I know it doesn’t
sound as if it should be a must-see show, but ut uz.
