Trevor
and Aimée at Moravia

Life
is but a dream – part infinity
19.9.06 –
It’s a regrettable fact, but
I have to push myself to get out and mingle on a day to day
basis. It’s a shame, because I happen to know some awfully nice
people, and I neglect them at my peril. Last week I was accosted
(in the nicest possible way) by Trevor ‘Legs’ Leeden’s wife,
Cathie, in the Camberwell carpark, after having walked right
past her in my usual carpark reverie, and I promised to arrange
a coffee at Moravia with Legs and whomever else might turn up
on the day. This came to pass yesterday, and I spent a very
pleasant 45 minutes with Trevor and four-year old Aimée,
(pic) until the party was joined by Cathie and Liam,
the youngest member of the clan, and we whiled away another
45 minutes. Today I persuaded Ed Nimmervoll to brave the gridlocked
traffic heading east and coffee with me at Gusto, my favoured
Camberwell haunt. We were jointly dismayed by the various crises
that beset this world and issued a communiqué to that
effect, before resuming our usual roles as toddlers in the Big
Sandpit of Life..

McDonald’s and McCausland
7.9.06 –
I got to bed pretty late last
night, so it was irksome to be woken at 7.00 this morning
by a plumber wondering what was happening with my sewer. One
doesn’t recover from such a start, and sure enough there was
a knock at the door at a few minutes before 8.00, which meant
I didn’t have time for such niceties as underpants as I hastily
pulled on my trackies and opened the door. There was the beaming
concreter from the day before (he’d arrived with a tape measure
to prepare a quote) asking me to move my van and advising
me that I couldn’t use my drive for the next three days.

3) Gentleman
Ian McCausland

I have no real idea of what the landlords
are up to, but it would seem from the latest phone call that
the sewer is too hard (i.e expensive) but the path,
or half of it, (pic 2), is actually urgently requiring
attention, (after a decade or so), and because they’ve got the
money for that, it’s being fixed. What that means apropo my
tenure I cannot begin to fathom.
On a totally unrelated matter, I was amazed to discover on my
amble down to Gusto today that the Camberwell McDonald’s is
being closed down (pic 1). No more will my delicate
olfactory radar be assailed by the smell of oft-used fat, no
longer will the pavement be littered with loud, acne-ed schoolies
and their untidily strewn accoutrements, and, incidentally,
a victory for the tiny Hungry Jack’s outlet down the road..
I’ve mentioned already that Ian McCausland is having a second
exhibition of his posters and album covers at the Willy RSL,
(Sun. Oct. 15th), and I popped over there on Monday to have
a chat with him about that and some other matters over
a coffee. Well, it eventuated that
I actually wandered into a planning session for the McCausland
show and the Fiona Boyes CD launch with Way Out West’s
Rob Rowe and a few others, and ended up scoring lunch (skippy)
courtesy of the RSL. In a daze I happily volunteered Bill and
me to play a few tunes in the exhibition space from 1.00 – 3.00,
which is when the Fiona Boyes CD launch starts in the bar, but
I didn’t manage to talk meaningfully to Ian as I’d planned.
Just another fucking brilliant plan gang aglay..
