Mike’s Pith & Wind cont. (2)

Mike’s Pith & Wind
cont.

But then some silly words jumped out and put themselves to the silly little
tune, and before long a verse, and another, and a chorus.. Bugger me! I had
a song bloody writing itself. I couldn’t resist it any longer and rushed,
rushed I tell you, into the barely used studio and started to put
it down onto Cubase. (You don’t want to know – it’s the cyber studio you have
when you don’t have room to swing a ukelele).
The guitar and the vocal were down in no time, and then I added my harmonica
and crappy mandolin (it’s never been the same since Ansett remodelled it on
the way back from Tamworth) then some backing vocals (we call them ‘bv’s in
the biz) and, oh joy! I had a song!
Mind you, I still wasn’t convinced. It was too easy! I sent it up to Colin
and waited. And waited. I felt like I was holding my breath for those few
days, while at the same time telling myself it didn’t really matter, my little
song probably wouldn’t fit with all the other undoubtedly poe-faced dedications.
Anyway, today the CD arrived, beautifully packaged, and featuring such luminaries
as Tex Perkins, Paul Kelly, Tiddas and Colin George himself, with the Rudd
song ‘My Dad Said’ pushing its way in as the final cut on the album. Colin
said in the accompanying note that the launch in Byron Bay had gone extremely
well, and asked if I could be available for the launch in Sydney in December.
Given the continuation of Spectrum’s run of outs, I should be very available
indeed. Mind you, I’ll have to get a solo repertoire together. When was that
date again?
